SO YOU’RE MOVING… NOW WHAT?

Tips in this blog are courtesy of our partner, Muscular Moving Men.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Living in a new home or a new city is exciting, however, getting all of your belongings there is not. My Home Group along with our trusted moving partner, Muscular Moving Men have compiled a list of tips and advice to help make your next move as smooth as possible.

  • Make your travel plans in advance

There is nothing worse than trying to scramble at the last minute to find a flight for the whole family. These flights tend to be over priced, overbooked and stressful. To avoid this, plan your travel in advance. Take advantage of having various flight, seating and overall travel options.

  • Cut costs and pocket some extra cash

If you are looking to reduce the cost of your move, or just find some extra cash to have on hand, look into lightening the load of items during your move. Old clothes that haven’t been worn in years, decorations that are collecting dust or the storage closet full of who-knows-what are great places to start!. Consider taking some of these gently used items to second-hand or consignment stores to make back a bit of money. Online resale outlets such as Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace or Offer Up are also great places to list your second hand items. You never know, items you may consider trash, others may consider treasure.

  • Free moving boxes, anyone?

If you just cleared out all of your clutter, the last thing you want to spend that extra cash on is moving boxes. If you are in need of some low cost/free boxes, there are a couple of places you can begin to look. Take a look back at those online resale shops, such as Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist or Offer Up to see if anyone is trying to get rid of their old boxes! Bars, restaurants and convenience stores are also a great place to look for free boxes. These types of companies get shipments daily that are delivered in boxes of various sizes. The employees would probably be happy to get some boxes out of their hands and into yours. Lastly, if you just had a new neighbor move in down the street, it is most likely that they have extra boxes leftover from their move. It doesn’t hurt to ask!

  • Change. Your. Address.

This seems like the most simple task, until you realize how many places need to know your address! This list is long and  includes the post office, the Motor Vehicle Division, banks, credit card companies, any active subscriptions such as magazines or pet deliveries, insurance companies (vehicle, health, home), phone/cable companies and don’t forget Amazon (you wouldn’t want your orders being shipped to your old address).

  • Hire professional movers

Instead of recruiting a team of family and friends to get your items sorted and packed into a moving truck, let the professionals step in. My Home Group recommends our trusted moving/storage and junk removal partners, Muscular Moving Men & Storage to handle all of your moving needs. They will save you from the headache (and backache) moving has caused us all at some point. Professional movers have all of the equipment necessary to successfully move your items, they are skilled in packing effectively, and can accurately assess the amount of moving supplies and size of moving truck needed. They also have junk removal services and even storage services for a great one-stop shop! While the pro’s get to work, take your family and friends out for one last hoo-ra before the move instead! You won’t regret it.
